Abstract

This article analyzes the constructive history of the Palazzo Comunale of Saluzzo (Cuneo, Italy) in relation to the intervention carried out in the period 1999-2013, in which only two phases of its extensive constructive history were privileged and combined. By analyzing this case, we can reflect on different aspects to consider in the architectural restoration project, from those that a priori seem to be more pragmatic as the choice of a destination of use without taking into account the characteristics of the building itself to others that are more theoretical, such as our concept of identity or the decision to privilege some construction phases over others, denying the possibility of a different reading of the history of the building in the future.

Author Biography

Chiara Lucia Maria Occelli, University Politecnico of Torino

Professor of Restoration at the Department of Architecture and Design of the Politecnico di Torino. She is an architect and holds a PhD in History and Criticism of Architectural and Environmental Assets from the same Polytechnic. Her research focuses on the theoretical and methodological aspects of restoration, with particular attention to the issues inherent to the project. Memory, identity, creativity and time are some of the main areas of reflection developed in his scientific publications.
